"Uncovering the Secret to the Perfect Old Fashioned Cocktail"

Updated: Feb 22

Here's a classic recipe for an Old Fashioned cocktail:

Ingredients:

- 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon or rye whiskey

- 1 sugar cube or 1/2 teaspoon of granulated sugar

- 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters

- A splash of water

- Orange peel, for garnish

- Ice cubes

Instructions:

1. Place the sugar cube or granulated sugar in an Old Fashioned glass (or a similar short glass).

2. Add 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters directly onto the sugar.

3. Add a splash of water to the glass and muddle the sugar and bitters together until the sugar is dissolved.

4. Drop in a large ice cube or a few smaller ice cubes.

5. Pour the bourbon or rye whiskey over the ice.

6. Stir gently for about 20-30 seconds to combine the ingredients and chill the drink.

7. Take the orange peel and squeeze it over the drink to release the oils, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel to impart its aroma.

8. Add the orange peel to the glass as a garnish.

9. Serve and enjoy!

Note: Some variations of the Old Fashioned recipe suggest muddling an orange slice, cherry, and/or a splash of club soda along with the sugar and bitters. However, the classic version described above is the most traditional and simple approach.

Please remember to drink responsibly and in moderation. Enjoy your Old Fashioned!
